Sales of photographic prints

Thank you to the anonymous buyer of 3 photographic prints.

Besides my Fine Art work,  I love photography.
I have learnt this skill alongside my father who, when I was a teenager, was taking me to photographic clubs.

I feel so fortunate to have learnt so much with my parents.

ARTISTS and FRIENDS

It was around 10 years ago when I started to use Internet for my Art.

I did find a site in UK for artists: Painters Online where my work was downloaded and with a bonus to be on an Art Forum

Much later, I did find a site called Redbubble where I could exhibit my work and sell prints.

In both sites, I did find an incredible amount of artists with whom I have made friends

Now we have Facebook where most artists I already know are posting there and where I have found new friends too!

Friendship can be well established through the internet.

Here are two lovely artists who had come to view my exhibition 5 years ago

Jeannette Harrison and Alan Stevens.

We had never met before but had made friends through Painters Online.
Another artist came along too, Alan Knight.
Just to show how Art brings people together...

Through Redbubble I met people from around the world!

I have been in touch with so many, all generous, good hearted and so talented!

This wonderful lady is well known artist in Pastel, Lynda Robinson from Australia, met on Redbubble.

She came to England and made a great detour to come to see me!
What a great time we had!

Unfortunately, I cannot name all artists who contact me on an everyday basis.. Each of them are precious to me. We have the same spirit. We like to share our work, our knowledge.
We are so happy just doing Art!

I receive phone calls from America, I Skype with some of them... plenty of emails of course!
Who said our artistic lives were boring?

Today, I have an extra pleasure. My week has started pretty well!!!

On Facebook,  the great artist Hidemi Tada from Japan
has made me the incredible honour to do my portrait!
I was very surprised when I saw the painting first thing this morning!

Hidemi Tada, I am terribly moved by your generosity. I feel so humble.

Thank you so very much does not seem enough to express how I feel!

*****
I wish people of the World could stop, think and turn to creation.
It has not got to be Art, it could be craft, anything constructive that takes the mind away from worries, illness and lately horrors created by human beings.

A wonderful world where people start sharing and appreciate one another instead of mocking, criticising, bullying and hurting.

A world of love for our craft and others.

Tears for the barbaric acts in Paris

I am an artist, I do not do politics.
However, today, I am, like the rest of the world, disgusted by the barbaric acts in Paris.

I was born in France, I have family and numerous friends there.

I mourn the lives that have been lost.

FABRIANO ARTISTICO and me!

I like to stick to what I know!

I have spent so much money on new paper, new paint, the acclaimed new products.... My new resolution was no more wasting. I will not try any new again!

Well... my good resolution vanished when one of my artist friend swore by
Fabriano Artistico.

I had tried Fabriano a few years back but did not like it.

I made some research after my friend explained to me there were two kind of papers:

the FABRIANO and the FABRIANO ARTISTICO

On Ken Bromley's website.... on FABRIANO ARTISTICO

Fabriano Artistico watercolour paper is mould made, produced whit 100% cotton, chlorine and acid free, guaranteeing long conservation and inalterability over time. The paper is sized both internally and externally, making it ideally absorbent and retaining its nature unaltered even if scratched. Traditional white, without optical bleaching.
Two deckle edges and watermarked "FABRIANO+ARTISTICO" on the short side. Short grain. The high quality and ample offer of this paper satisfied the requirements of all professional artists and the most demanding amateurs.
Ideal for watercolour, tempera, gouache, acrylic, link, charcoal, graphite and drawing. It is also suitable for printmaking.

And so I bought some!

When I see a Watercolour paper unknown to me, I like to touch it.
It is what I did when I received it.

Somehow, it had the right feeling. But... I would not get excited until I made my first painting.
-* The paper has got a very slight creamy tinge which I prefer to white white.

I used a 1/4 Imperial size to mess about: Wet in wet,  small wash, larger one, tried to lift the paint etc etc... all the tests pass in grand style.

One thing I really loved was the fact that the wet and wet session slightly buckled (not a lot at all) and came completely flat.
-* It means the paper does not need to be stretched!

So, it was time to do my first painting.

I choose a Portrait.

I took 1/2 Imperial, made a slight drawing.

-* The paint behave exactly as I wanted.

-* It was a real bonus to discover that it was not absorbed too fast by the paper, giving me the opportunity to blend while drying.

-* It was taking each colour wonderfully well. No messing with a result of muddy colours.

-* It kept vibrancy of the colours. I could have done as many layers as I wanted to and keeping its appearance and absorbency.

-* One great discovery for all watercolour artists is to have a paper that accept the lifting of the colours. It did each time I wanted to do so.

It was time to erase the pencil marks.

Ouch! I probably did not use the right pencil or the right rubber.

-* I was horrified when it made a mess. I could not understand why as some part had been rubbed away with no problem.
I still assume my paper was not perfectly dry. BIG MISTAKE!!

For all other papers I tried, the painting would have finished in the bin.
So, thinking it was going to be the fate of this painting, I rubbed and rubbed the messy corner, only to discover that the pencil marks had gone but so was the mess I had done.

With other papers, I knew it would have been impossible to rescue the painting.

-*I was wrong! I was able to carry on painting as if nothing had happened.

FABRIANO ARTISTICO has won my heart. I still have to experiment it with a Still life and a Landscape. I will be adding them here.

The Art of composing

Being an artist does not necessarily means to find a setting and paint in front of it!

Many times we have to simply invent a mood or a total scenery.

For example, in the middle of Winter, I love painting my roses. So, with the so many references I keep of all my flowers, I take one here, another there and compose a bouquet with the addition of one of my objects and voila... a Still life is born!

Just now, I wanted to compose a snow scenery.
I did scratch my head about which one!

Until I arrived to the decision to paint my favourite place: Dungeness.

I have written an article about Dungeness for the Magazine Hythe and Romney Marsh now called the Cinques Port

Snow is very very rare in Dungeness as it is right by the sea.
It is what is the most challenging thing to paint an atmospheric sky that I do not see.
Just have to invent it, with the colours.
In addition, the snow takes the colours of the sky.
It is as I was going along that my imagination took over.
I could imagine the little shacks switching their lights etc etc...

So here is the result
